MaryChimpanzees, DRC 2016

Departing to a dangerous paradise to make a difference in a stunning but rough area dealing with the aftermath of war. We are preparing our trip to the Centre de Rehabilitation des Primates de Lwiro in the Democratic Republic of Congo, helping chimps, baboons, many more primates and the young people who are struggling to get back on their feet. From Holland we already started working and fundraising for this amazing sanctuary in expectation of our visa.

 Chimpanzees, South Africa 2015Thabu

We were asked to do interim management of a chimpanzee sanctuary. And not just any sanctuary, but Chimp Eden! The one we, as many others, watched on tv fantasizing about a job and a life like that. Literally the dream job. It was interesting to live the reality of that dream including all amazing things but also all the difficulties and struggles that are never part of dreams.

vervet release 2014 baby on enclosureVervets, Malawi 2014

We did it again! The amazing process of releasing primates who have been victims of the bushmeat or pet trade back into the wild. This is not without risks for them: vervets are a much sought after prey and need more time to adapt than baboons. But they got the chance to be wild and free and a stable group survived and is now doing well. Another successful release for the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre.

baboon release 2013 BambiYellow Baboons, Malawi 2013

What is the best ever thing you can do for an animal that has been the victim of wildlife crime? Rehabilitate them and set them free! We got the chance to be part of this amazing process for 26 baboons of the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre. We released them back into the wild and we were there to guide them every step of the way. Protecting and studying them, while step by step our furry kids became more independent.
